Meet Kate Davis-Hitchens
Kate Davis-Hitchens is a literacy specialist and educational therapy practitioner dedicated to helping students become confident, capable learners. She provides individualized, evidence-based instruction for children and adolescents with dyslexia, language-based learning differences, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and students who need additional support in reading, writing, and academic confidence.
Kate specializes in one-on-one intervention that meets each student where they are. Her approach combines structured literacy, explicit reading instruction, multisensory teaching techniques, and personalized learning strategies to help students develop lasting skills rather than short-term fixes. She believes every student deserves instruction that builds both competence and confidence.
Her expertise includes:
Dyslexia screening and intervention
Structured literacy instruction
Reading fluency, decoding, spelling, and comprehension
Written language and composition
Executive functioning and study skills
Academic coaching for students with learning differences
Individualized educational support for grades 1–12
Parent collaboration and educational advocacy
Kate has extensive experience working with students across public, private, and specialized educational settings, supporting learners with a wide range of academic profiles. She has served as a Dyslexia Specialist, collaborated with classroom teachers to implement effective accommodations and interventions, and provided individualized instruction designed to help students reach their academic goals.
Her training includes Lindamood-Bell's Seeing Stars®, Visualizing and Verbalizing® (V/V®), and Talkies® methodologies, and she is continuing advanced professional development through an Orton-Gillingham Fellowship and additional Early Childhood Education coursework. Kate is committed to ongoing learning so she can provide students with the most current, research-based instructional practices.
What sets Kate apart is her ability to build meaningful relationships with students while tailoring instruction to each learner's strengths, challenges, and goals. Having experienced learning differences herself, she understands both the academic and emotional aspects of struggling in school. She creates a supportive environment where students feel safe to take risks, celebrate progress, and develop the independence needed for long-term success.
Kate earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Colorado State University and her Associate of Arts in English from American River College.
When she's not working with students, Kate enjoys reading, spending time with her wife, their energetic German Shepherd-Husky mix, tuxedo cat, and four backyard chickens.
Kate's mission is simple: to help every student discover that they can learn, grow, and thrive with the right support, the right strategies, and someone who believes in their potential.
