Caitlin Alegre, Middle and High School Specialist
Caitlin holds a Master of Arts in Educational Therapy from Holy Names University, where she specialized in executive functioning and reading difficulties. As a Certified Educational Therapist by the Association of Educational Therapists, Caitlin brings advanced expertise in supporting students with learning challenges and empowering them to overcome academic barriers.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from Mills College, with a concentration in language acquisition and language learning—a foundation that informs her holistic approach to educational therapy. Caitlin is also a trained mindfulness facilitator, with over 10 years of personal experience in mindfulness practice, which she integrates into her work to support students’ emotional well-being and academic growth.
A Passion for Supporting Identity Through Learning
As a first-generation Latina-American and daughter of a refugee, Caitlin deeply understands the significance of cultural identity and personal narrative. She is passionate about helping students embrace and explore their identities through literature and the written narrative. Caitlin’s writing pedagogy honors diversity, creates inclusive learning communities, and fosters both scholastic growth and personal transformation.
Her approach not only nurtures academic development but also emphasizes the importance of cultural identity in the learning process. Through her work, Caitlin encourages students to find their voices and share their stories in a way that fosters empathy, understanding, and personal connection.
A Multifaceted Approach to Education
Caitlin’s background is as diverse as the students she serves. As a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, she draws inspiration from her classical music training (starting at age five) and from a wide range of cultural and musical genres. Caitlin writes music in both Spanish and English, reflecting her commitment to bilingualism and cultural expression.
Her work as an educational therapist is informed by the belief that all students have the potential to thrive when provided with the right tools, individualized attention, and a space to express who they are.
Caitlin’s Philosophy
“We may all live different lives, but our existences are woven together in a shared tapestry that tells the narrative of the collective human experience. In a constantly evolving society, it is especially important for our youth to hold tight to the many threads that define them and shape who they are: culture and ethnicity; faith and gender; the places that represent us; our hopes, dreams, and values. Words are our most powerful tool: if we can tell our own stories, and hear the stories of others, we will discover our inherent compassion. And through this compassion, we will find that we are inspired to build bridges, and not walls.”
